I have done the Malwarebytes scan on my computer plus ran the Avast virus scan and the CCleaner. However, I am still getting the Powershell has stopped working error message every once in awhile. Malware found kenroil Trojan and quarantined it. I ran the avast after this and it didn’t find anything. The CCleaner cleaned a few things but I just got the Powershell error. Have any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks.
I downloaded malwarebytes and scanned with it in safe mode, it found poweliks and removed it. Then, i did the eset test and my computer came up clean. Thank you for the easy guide was ready to throw my asus laptop out of the window.
Did you perform step 4? Thanks
Upon trying to continue on to step 8 I get a message telling me that my security settings won’t let me download the software. How do I get through this?
I did 11-13 and, fingers crossed, I think we did it! Thank you so much!!
You’re Welcome
This is usually triggered by malicious websites, or a malcious program that you downloaded. Running malwarebytes premium, will protect in real - time.
A million thanks from Germany.
Hi Milllie
Did you perform steps 11 to 13?
Thanks
I have tried your fix and it worked for awhile, but now the popup is back. The only thing I did differently is that I don’t use Internet Explorer. I used Firefox instead.
Can you post results from the ESET utility (step 11 to 13)
I did all of the steps, yet the “powershell has stopped working” popup is still persisting.
Which operating system are you running? Windows 7 or Windows 8?
Please help. when I restart my computer and press F8 for the advanced boot options, they do not come up. Howdo I get them ?
Hi Kevin
Thanks you for the fix. I performed all the steps. Malwarebytes took 6 hours and quarantined 322 threats it found. I guess i am now clean. How can i prevent this from happening in future?
Thank you for the steps. My issue has now been fixed.
Hi Jon
It appears to me that the powershell issue related to poweliks has been resolved. Now, this is something else which i’d be happy to help you with. However, i would like you to e-mail it to me so we can troubleshoot it separately since this thread only focuses on the powershell issue, and once we have it fixed. I will post the solution as a guide here for others. My e-mail address is kevinarrows@appuals.com - Can you send me two screen shots, along with your computer specs.
- Screen shot of task manager tab in normal mode
- Screen shot of task manager tab in safe mode
Both showing processes.
Thanks
Yes, it can be installed using the CD/DVD. Just insert it in safe mode and begin the installation.
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for this post. Hopefully, it will help out with this issue that I have…I’m currently running the custom scan from Malwarebytes. However, I have 2 questions for you.
-
Do you know why this virus wouldn’t get detected by McAfee?
-
When I attempted to run the AdwCleaner, I received the following message:
AdwCleaner.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm
your computer.
I assume that it is ok for me to download this software?
Thanks!
Sean
I followed your directions precisely. The scan took less than one hour and did not detect any objects. The powershell warning is still popping up. All in SAFE mode. What else can I try?
