Fix: Right Click Not Working on Windows

When I press the Windows Key and Press X I just get a menu on the left hand side with no option to run as administrator. Am I doing something wrong?

Shell Extension Manager worked!!! Thank you so much.

the tablet and shell extension didnt work. now im sol with getting drivers for devices

Thank you! The Shell Extension Manager helped resolve this very quickly.

Thanks for your guide. After turning off the Tablet Mode the right click functions worked again and I got my icons back onto the desktop screen. perfect solutionh.

This topic is about right click not working, but if nothing is working and programs are crashing then it would be best to reset the system.

After trying all other solutions to this problem, I read somewhere that you should create a new user account and delete the account where right-click, start button and action center didn’t work.
But I found out that the following worked and fixed the problem without deleting your current account:

  1. Log in as the account where it doesn’t work
  2. Create a new local user account with administrator privilieges.
  3. Log off current account and log in as the new account
  4. Log off new account and log in as the old account
  5. Now taskbar, start button and action center works again.

I’ve tried it on two different machines with the same problem and both worked.

Weird, but hey, everything works again.

None of those are helping me. And i cant open my calcucator either, it just crashes

Hold the Windows Key and Press X. Then choose, Run As Admin.

Quick question… how are you supposed to right click run as admin if the right click isn’t working in the first place?

Did you recently install any software that could conflict with shell extensions?

Hello,

I have a weird problem… I cannot even start the explorer nor click on any desktop folders/icons…

I cannot right click on any of the folder/processes… Seems some issue with the permission…

Need to run all the apps by command prompt…

Thanks

It may be that the mouse is faulty or the touch pad? Have you tried updating the drivers?

Kevin, Thanks so much for the post. While enable/disable tablet mode did nothing, using ShellExView allowed me to discover that the extension “Autodesk Inventor Part” was causing right-click to fail on any folder (symptom: delay followed by Windows Explorer Reset). I upgraded (?) from Win 7 to Win 10 in July with an existing, working version of Autodesk Inventor on the system. This version of Inventor is known to be incompatible with Win 10 but did not seem to cause system problems until the right-click failure was noticed on 10-Sep. Very odd. Thanks for your help. Les

Does it works in safe mode?
