I’m doing the Malwarebytes scan and I’ve done the steps you mentioned above and the scan has scanned 163212 items and the scan has taken over 69 hours. Is this a bad thing? Our computer has been running particularly slow so maybe it’s just because of the tardiness of the computer. Is something wrong with the scan?

The computer has been running super slow so maybe it’s just the computer going so slow, but you said the scan would take only 4-6 hours. Is something wrong with the scan?

I really wish I was able to afford a larger donation for you! I gave what I could, but please realize your help was worth so much more! This is the first time in months I’ve been able to go more than 10 minutes without my display driver causing a blue screen error, and 1 minute without the powershell error every other second, as well as my internet settings constantly going back to not allowing me to download anything with every re-start! I wish I had found your page the first time I tried looking for a solution. You page is now bookmarked and you will be the first place I look with any future issues!

Thanks so much for your easy to follow instructions! I encountered the “PowerShell Not Working” and “Files will not Dowload” problems. I was at my wits end until I found your instructions. I was unable to download the malwarebytes on the infected computer. I used another to download/save. Brought to the infected computer which I booted in SAFE mode, ran it, waited forever to have the files updated. Then I ran it. I chose a custom scan and was sure to select the rootkit just as you indicated. I did indeed follow the directions.
Penny- this happened to me, too, the virus changed a setting to stop you from downloading anything. I had to go to internet exlplorer-tools-security- custom level then scroll down to downloads and allow downloads.

I’ve been running every scan out there just to be sure I got rid of this thing, none of the scans find any new virus, but I still feel a bit suspicious since I have a svchost.exe process taking 256,000k of memory, which never used to happen, iexplorer always took the top spots in the list. Its running services which include “desktop window manager session”, “distrubted link tracking client”, “tablet PC input service” and this is not a tablet,“human interface device access”…should I be concerned?

When I clicked the second link for the adwcleaner, it says the page could not be found. I downloaded it from the official site, but I thought you guys would like to know so you could hopefully fix the link.
You can use the Ethernet until the issue is resolved.
