Fix: Temporary Profile issues in Windows 10

I know this is old, but I recommend using online email. It’s not if your computer is going to crash it’s when. By having email on a website (the cloud) you keep your emails safe from the eventual crash of your computer.

i am doing all steps but error is not fixing… therefore i am asking for video shane

You have to delete the “.bak”. Also, it seems that you have further complicated the process by following the video inaccurately, so i suggest that since your data is already backed up in another partition, you install a fresh Windows and create a new Microsoft Account on the newly installed Windows.

Hi,
You only had to delete the “.bak” from the end of the name during the renaming process. From your comment, it seems that you deleted the file instead of renaming it. If so then we would recommend restoring your computer to an earlier date.

same with me… did you get the solution…?

Hi Kevin, I fear that I have lost all my files. After a repair of Windows 10 I was presented with the can’t login to my account dilemma. a number of YouTube videos later I had tried deleting the .bak file to no avail. Someone else suggested modifying the temporary account file to name it as your main profile. Unfortunately I think I did both of those things at once and it now logs in as my main profile but there is nothing of that main profile left. The files that were once there under ‘USERS’ are now gone and I am worried that I have lost them forever. If you have any suggestions I would be extremely grateful. Helm

I needed an answer to this, thank you very much

Hi Kevin. I have a real head scratcher for you. A while back, I created a new profile on Win 10 Pro. I can’t even remember why I created another profile, but I did. My old profile was PVK. MY new profile is PRVK. All was fine for a while, but on reboots, PVK would show up once in a while, then more often, and now it’s the only profile that will boot. I’m missing 3 months of emails, and a few downloads I made. I’m a member of AlldataDIY, and have lost quite a bit of auto repair info. I’ve tried a lot of different things to correct this issue, without success. I looked for my profiles in regedit, and just about every other way I can think of, and all I can find is PVK. Am I without hope?

Solution 2 worked neatly. thanks

Create a new account and then browse to c:users, from there look up the older usname and copy data to new profile.

Can you list the reset steps you took?
Try uninstalling antivirus s’s and then see.

Hi. I did the steps. My computer now works fine. I thought it would be better to do a complete factory reset after this. When i tried doing it, it runs for 2% and reverts the changes saying unable to reset. Please advise.

After I copy and then delete my user file and delete both profile paths how do I get my account back?

You can restore it from C:usersyour username (copy and move the files) to the current directory.

can anyone tell me why is all my files gone after doing step 2 i lost all my files in my desktop and i lost a few shortcuts

what fixed my problem was that my :C Drive user folder had somehow gotten renamed and my .bak file was looking for my previously named folder so make sure your user profile name is the same as your registry directory

OMG I love you! Thank you very much
Solution #2 worked perfectly!!!

I cant understand step 4 in solution 2…please somebody help me

Can you try doing this in Safe Mode?

This glitch happens to me about three times a month ever since upgrading to Windows 10. It is more frequent since the auto-installed Win10 Anniversary fiasco.
Today, not even the regedit fix is working. The other solutions have never done the trick in my case. I’ve created the built-in system administrator account and robooted into it as usual. This time, I’m trying to backup copy the user folder C:users to my USB drive, but two problems are preventing me.

  1. Error message “you need SYSTEM permission for this action”.
  2. Error Messages “Unable to copy file NTUSER.DAT file is open in SYSTEM”, and a number of other user config and log files, and a file .ie5.
How do I get my user folder to copy over to another drive as suggested?
