have to say this has bugged me for ages…in fairness I am hardwired all the time biut its nice to know the Wifi is there inc ase the cable drops out for whatever reason.~
The regedit fix did the trick so thanks very muc and thanks to the comment below explaining the shortcut to doing so
Hey George,
I assume you are using a Laptop which basically disables the power to adaptor itself it can cause some sensors to not work sometimes it can also break the drivers itself or in your case, disable the automatic WiFi connection. So therefore disabling this option will not compromise the power to your adaptor.
I do think for many this will be the cure -someone above this post gave the admin cmd (right click windows icon bottom left choose( cmd admin)to do this ,so people don’t have fudge around with a manual regedit. here is is again Cheers !
HKLMSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWcmSvcGroupPolicy /v fMinimizeConnections /t REG_DWORD /d 0
Have you tried this:
“Within the device manager, under VIEW, choose “show hidden devices”
2. disabled the “microsoft wifi direct virtual adapter”
3. disable the “microsoft hosted network virtual adapter””
works like a charm! thanks a lot. (win10)
Yea np, do tell if they work because sometimes even if other systems are working alright with the same configs, Windows just breaks things on its own either through updates or through incompatibilities with other applications. Therefore, the best thing is to try to find workarounds or just live with it until maybe an update fixes it.
The network troubleshooter identified the Ethernet port as being the problem (not connected, duh! ya think?). I ended up having to disable the adapter in device manager and then my WIFI would reconnect automatically.
Thanks
Outstanding. I’ve been fighting this battle for a while now, and your reg key did the trick. Thank you very much!!!
I tried all of these. The registry edit worked for a couple restarts, but now i’m back to the same problem. It is back to not auto-connecting. So it’s on to the unenviable task of posting the problem in the MS forum where some call center keyboard lackey will post cut and paste responses that aren’t even related to the question asked. How can MS Screw up something so simple and essential?
thank you so much!
Stranger than fiction, but about a year - and several Windows 10 updates - ago I had to remove the tick from the “Allow Computer To Turn Off This Device To Save Power” box, because it was not connecting automatically to the internet when coming out of sleep mode. Now, following the previous comment, and in desperation, I checked the box and all is well! You explain!
HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Why was my reply deleted?
@Anthony Quinn
Could you give me the path you used to change the registry?
The example is different on Windows 10. All mine starts with “HKEY_*”.
Help!!
I did an update on the 12/7/17 and have now tried to use my computer. It will not connect to my wifi.
I have tried the above methods and it still wont connect.
Could you show screenshot please? 'Cause the path in the example differs from how it looks for me.

Apologies for the late response.
The router is one supplied by Optus my broadband company. It is approx 2 years old and never had a problem on previous windows which was last computer until I bought this one about 3 months ago. There are 3 other devices that connect to the router and none of them have a problem staying connected.
OK, i have tried EVERYONE of these. I still have the exact problem that I started with before paying for the software, tho it did help with other things. I have played with EVERY single setting that can turn anything off and not a single thing has changed. It tends to happen when there are long moments of inactivity - mainly overnight. This is about page number 30 of different settings that I have changed. Can anyone help?
thank you for letting us know.
